The last winter break has gone by in a flash. Knowing there are just a few months left of school it gave me a lot of emotional feelings. My winter break consisted of work, work and more work. My family and I are agricultural workers. Everyday we would get up early and go to our daily job picking oranges, tangerines and grapefruits. Our family reunions were better than ever. My family was more united than the previous years. During winter break everyday is family day, we were always together. Aside from all the family time and work I knew winter break was no joke. I took advantage of the free time I had to finish work from all my classes.
Last semester went by really fast. The classes I had were really easy but I regret procrastinating a lot. I fell behind in all my classes but once the end of the semester was finishing I got caught up and finished my classes on time. From first semester I passed seven out of seven classes. Once first semester ended it hit me! This is reality , there is so much to do in so little time.
Going into second semester with all my classes done, I can not fall behind anymore. This semester I need to finish half of a semester to Intro to Exploratory Arts, in order to graduate. My Freshmen year classes were a mess, so they must be made up now. This is a required class since it is my career pathway. I don’t want to be part of the group of students that fall behind. So here I am trying to finish my classes and finish all my senior work.
My college applications are complete. As of today my mind has been set. I have decided to attend Porterville College. I was ahead of most students. My application was turned in before winter break. I also signed up for College of Sequoias, in case I change my mind. I would still have a second option. Coming back to school after a long winter break all i had to worry about was financial aid applications. I’m glad I had the help from my councillors. If it wasn’t for my councillors I would have never turned them in. Now that I have finished applying for college some of my stress has been released. All my focus is on finishing my classes and senior project.
I have not tried that hard to find a job quite yet. My main focus is school and sports. Once I graduate , I have chose to work with my parents in the fields picking oranges and grapes. At least until college starts. When I start college I plan to get a part time job on my days off school or afterschool.
